I’m never so frustrated to be poor and not famous as I am when the Met Gala rolls around how are all of these rich famous people so far off the theme every single year do you even know how I would POP if I had the means to attend this event????

My theory? Some of the guests don’t want to emulate gay men in drag, because they rely on homophobes buying shit they sponsor. Another one of my theories: their brands are their beauty, their appearances, and camp makes chiseled jawlines and big pouty lips and perfect figures completely irrelevant. Camp is going over the top, having fun, not worrying about looking glamorous. It’s gluing as many rhinestones to your face and body as you can, wrapping a feather boa around your neck, and walking around in spiked 6 in heels in a neon leotard and chiffon skirt. It’s showing up in a go kart that spits out sparks when it’s moving for absolutely no reason, and also that go kart is decked out with a pair of metal wings.

The people who attempted camp are mostly the people who aren’t conventionally attractive, white, straight, and thin. Camp isn’t about conventional beauty, and that means it’s not about something that the media says they lack. They don’t have to worry. They can have fun. There’s no pressure in camp.

Plus, yknow, black drag queens invented camp, and god forbid anyone acknowledge that fact in public when there are demographics in their fan base who hate them that you need to keep happy.
